California is leading the way in Clean Energy Revolution.
The question is:
Are you part of this revolution, or you are still paying constantly increasing electrical, water and gas bills and continue to wonder, why are you paying so much money and what can you show for it at the end of each month?

According to U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA):
The Cost Of Electricity in California rose by five times more than in the rest of the United States.
The cost of electricity in California is not only substantially higher than the average cost in the U.S., but this trend is expected to continue well into the future because of additional demands for energy in the marketplace.
In the San Francisco Bay Area, for example:

You probably wonder:
Why are we paying so much for our electricity, water and gas month after month, year after year, while it is not going down and there is nothing to show for it?
Instead, our bills are going up and up and up….and we don’t see any light at the end of the tunnel.
The Big Question is:

Net Energy Metering, or "NEM", is a special billing method that was introduced by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). This method was originally designed to provide credit to customers with solar PV systems for the full retail value of the electricity their system generates. Under NEM, the customer's electric meter keeps track of how much electricity is consumed by the customer, and how much excess electricity is generated by the system and sent back into the electric utility grid.
HOW NET METERING REALLY WORKS?

Net Energy Metering is a gateway for optimizing the rate of return on a solar investment and it offers the following benefits:
Without net metering, customers may save only the value of solar electricity they directly consume. Learn more online at:

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) regulates all aspects related to the Net Metering Program in California. Recently, CPUC introduced Net Energy Metering 3.0 Or NEM 3.0 Tariff in California which dramatically reduces the value of solar energy for residential solar customers. The NEM 3.0 changes went into effect on April 15, 2023.

Did you receive a mild “shock” from your recent Electrical Bill?
If so, did it look anything like this?

Do you realize that when you use more Electricity, you are being charged a higher rate? For example, a bill from Southern California Edison®, or SCE, will limit your use for low electricity rate, based on a few hundred Kilowatt-Hours or kWh you use every month. Once you exceed that limit, SCE will charge you a higher rate based on a Tiered Rate Plan.
Important Note: A Kilowatt Hour (kWh) is a measure of energy. So, a 1,000-watt drill needs 1,000 watts (1 kW) of power to make it work and uses 1 kWh of energy in an hour. That's why, if you leave a TV or computer on standby, it is still using power and creating a kWh cost on your energy bill.

The answer to this question will depend upon several factors and then get ready to be shocked:
Monthly Bill | $100/M | 200/M | 300/M | 400/M | 500/M | 600/M | 700/M | 800/M | 900/M | 1,000/M |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Year | 21¢/kWh | 22¢/kWh | 23¢/kWh | 24¢/kWh | 25¢/kWh | 26¢/kWh | 27¢/kWh | 28¢/kWh | 29¢/kWh | 30¢/kWh |
1 | 1,200 | 2,400 | 3,600 | 4,800 | 6,000 | 7,200 | 8,400 | 9,600 | 10,800 | 12,000 |
5 | 6,764 | 13,528 | 20,292 | 27,056 | 33,820 | 40,584 | 47,348 | 54,112 | 60,876 | 67,640 |
10 | 15,815 | 31,630 | 47,445 | 63,260 | 79,075 | 94,890 | 110,705 | 126,520 | 142,335 | 158,150 |
15 | 27,928 | 55,856 | 83,784 | 111,712 | 139,640 | 167,568 | 195,496 | 223,424 | 251,352 | 279,280 |
20 | 44,138 | 88,276 | 132,414 | 176,552 | 229,690 | 264,828 | 308,966 | 353,104 | 397,242 | 441,380 |
25 | 65,830 | 131,660 | 197,490 | 263,320 | 329,150 | 394,980 | 460,810 | 526,640 | 592,470 | 658,300 |
For example, if you are paying on average only $100 per month – this will accumulate to about $65,830 over a 25-year period.
An average family of three in California pays between $200/month to $300/month which means that the average cost of electricity in California is between $131,660 to $197,490 over a 25-year period.
So, if this does not shock you, nothing else probably will.
You certainly owe this to yourself to check your own numbers before you will decide whether you should join the Clean Energy Revolution.
